The Paradoxes of Life

Life is all paradoxes. A paradox is something that seems to be true and false simultaneously—a puzzle with no apparent solution. We find paradoxes everywhere around us—in the way we think, act, and even in the functioning of this world.

Often, we believe that having something missing from our lives will make everything better, that it will make us feel more complete. Too often, we fall for false lullabies and fake promises instead of examining the hidden intentions behind them. We get trapped by our own feelings of excitement and comfort.

Take an example of sales and salary—let’s say your salary has just been credited, and you walk into a store flashing banners like “Flat 50% OFF!” or “Buy 1 Get 1 Free!”. You get allured by this trap and end up spending much more than needed or expected. In the end, you find yourself in an uncomfortable situation. It all happens because of mindlessly handling these freebies, lullabies, and cleverly designed traps that we often overlook.

That was just an example. The paradoxes we fall for are limitless. Consider the paradox of living in the future and ruining your present. We often think we’ll be happy when we finally have that luxury car, that fancy home, a blossoming love life, or a career we can be proud of. The list never ends. And in the quest for this future life and wishful thinking, we tend to ruin the joy we could already be rewarding ourselves with.

I am not saying that aspiring for what suits you is bad. The only thing is—these aspirations should not overshadow the genuine joy of being realistic, present in the moment, and living it fully. The truth is, the idea that we can control everything is an illusion. Life is composed of far more uncontrollables than controllables. And often, when we stop giving too much importance to the “shits” that don’t matter, we discover a happier way of living.

In this one-time life—where our days can literally be counted on fingertips—we are meant to live a “little infinity.” This little infinity is made of the finite days we live but becomes infinite through the moments we cherish completely.

I hope and wish that you live this little infinity in the best way you can. Just know this—in all the hardships and tumults, there is always a path that leads to serenity. Be mindful enough to find it, and be hopeful, always.

With love and lots of prayers,
